Happy May, everyone! Let's dive into the magical world of mermaids! As a Little Mermaid fan, it is a dream come true for me to illustrate a children's book about mermaids, and I am thrilled to share more details about "Ivy Discovers her M-E-R-M-A-I-D"!
This enchanting story is written by Desiree Mcneil Burns, and I am grateful that she chose me to bring her characters to life. As a children's book illustrator, I always aim to create whimsical and vibrant illustrations that make the reading experience more fun and interactive for kids.
One of the most exciting parts of creating this book was the creative process. I started by sketching out the idea and once the author was happy with it, I proceeded with color blocking. This phase involved placing basic shapes and ideas of the color, to get a rough idea of how the illustrations would look. Once this phase was approved, I moved on to the rendering phase, which is my favorite part! This is when I get to add all the details to the book and bring the characters to life.
After all the illustrations were completed, it was time to compile the book using Adobe Indesign and ensure that it met the specifications required by Amazon KDP and Ingram Spark. This part used to be tricky for me, but with experience and lots of learning, I now find it easy. In fact, I am thinking about creating a tutorial to help others with this process.
Working with self-published authors is always an honor. It feels amazing to help them realize their dreams, and in turn, they help me achieve mine. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of "Ivy discovers her M-E-R-M-A-I-D" and I hope it inspires young readers to explore their own creativity and imagination.
